ITaP printers going “hands free” to protect Purdue
In an effort to protect students, staff and faculty from COVID-19, all ITaP supported print stations are going hands-free by allowing individuals to release print jobs from their personal computer or mobile device.
This fall, ITaP plans to reopen printing at more than 100 print stations on campus – found in computer labs, cultural centers and residence halls – but in order to print, users will have to follow the hands-free guidelines.
How to print hands free from your own device:
1. First, send your file to be printed. To do this, students have two options:
- Email: (*Note that this only works for documents saved as a .pdf. or image files) Attach file to email and send to firstname.lastname@example.org to print with black ink or email@example.com to print in color. Files must be less than 10 MB.
- PaperCut Mobility Print app: Download the app (available here; but user must be connected to the Purdue network – either on campus or via VPN for the app to work) and use its interface to print to any printer in the system. To use this app, you must be on the PAL 3.0 wireless network.
2. Next, go to any ITaP printer.

3. At the printer:
- From your mobile device, go to itap.purdue.edu/papercut using any web browser. Your mobile device must be on the PAL 3.0 wireless network.
- Log in using your Purdue Career Account.
- Click on the Jobs Pending Release from left side of screen.
- Select Print under the “Action” column for your print job and choose the printer you are using.
Please note: For students without smartphone or computer access, please visit HIKS or WALC where an ITaP lab assistant can help release print jobs.
Items sent to a printer will remain in the printing que for up to four hours before expiring. After four hours, items must be sent to print again if they have not already been printed.
