Faculty invited to campus technology showcase

Faculty work with ITaP Teaching and Learning Technologies staff during an information fair.

Technologies that can save instructors time and help them engage with students will be the focus of a January technology showcase designed to help faculty get ready for the spring semester.

The showcase, hosted from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 4, in the Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 2121, will be led by staff from ITaP’s Teaching and Learning Technologies team and will allow instructors to learn about tools and services available on campus.

“It’s a great way to learn what technology is available and how you might be able to use it in your course,” says Lindsay Hamm, a continuing lecturer in the Sociology Department, who attended a similar event in August. “It’s also a great way to network with other faculty and learn what they’re doing in the classroom.

Some of the offerings available to faculty include:

  • Course design and review: ITaP instructional designers work with colleges and faculty to develop, redesign and review courses. If you are designing an online course, they’re also prepared to assist you.
  • Instructional technologies: Whether it’s classroom response tools, like iClickers and Hotseat; video technology like KalturaBoilerCast or VideoExpress; or the new gamification app Replay ITaP has more than 20 technologies designed to help students learn and make the classroom more efficient.
  • Faculty professional development: These Hands-on learning opportunities are designed to help instructors learn best practices for using specific technology.

An introductory Blackboard Learn course, designed to help new faculty learn the basics of the course management system, will also be held Jan. 4, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 2087.

Registration is not required for either event, but is encouraged. More information about these events and other faculty professional development opportunities can be found on ITaP’s training calendar.
