Classroom and computer lab updates

Classroom and computer labs are continuing to be updated throughout the summer as ITaP’s Learning Spaces team works to install the latest version of Windows and update older technology.

Updates faculty, staff and students need to be aware of include:

• As of the start of summer module 2, Windows 10 has been deployed to about half of all ITaP-supported classrooms and labs, with the rest to be updated by the start of the fall semester. 
• Users may experience lengthy login times with Windows 10 because the settings for individual profiles have moved to the user’s home directory; those experiencing login delays are probably over their home directory storage quota allocation and should delete personal files to free up strorage space. •  PowerDVD software is being installed on all instructor computers as Windows 10 does not have a native DVD playback software system. 
• Classroom computers are also being upgraded over the summer. As part of those upgrades, the new computers will be installed with a secure Dell keyboard. Previously, Apple keyboards were used due to security concerns, but Apple no longer manufactures a wired keyboard. 
• BoilerCast lecture capture is now powered by Kaltura, instead of Echo360, allowing all lecture content to be stored in Kaltura’s Media Space. Lecture capture requests and operation have not changed, details can be found here. Previously recorded lecture captures will available in Media Space by the start of the fall semester.
