Innovative Learning Team will serve as hub for teaching, learning and online innovation

In a move to leverage Purdue’s teaching, learning and educational resources on all of its campuses, the University is bringing together three units as a team focused on supporting innovative learning.

The Innovative Learning Team will bring together Purdue’s Center for Instructional Excellence, Purdue Online Learning (formerly Digital Education) and ITaP Teaching and Learning Technologies to serve as the University’s central resource for all modalities including online, hybrid, and face-to-face teaching and learning projects.

The new team, initiated by Frank Dooley, Purdue senior vice provost for teaching and learning, and Gerry McCartney, Purdue executive vice president and chief information officer, will move this fall to the fourth floor of Young Hall, where it will continue to carry out the core missions of its three entities, as well as work together to offer creative and innovate solutions to meet the current and future needs of the university.

“The goal is to take a strategic approach and leverage our current and new online assets across all campuses,” says McCartney. “The Innovative Learning Team, by bringing these different teams together, will enhance the experience, learning and outcomes for all of our learners.”

The Innovative Learning Team will continue to provide resources for customers across the University, including course design; faculty development; research-based teaching methods and the creation and administration of online courses and programs. In addition, the team will work on non-credit professional development programs, tailored business-to-business courses, and massive open online courses (MOOCs); faculty development programs such as IMPACT; as part of the larger effort to engage in transformative education.

“By bringing these teams together, we are able to create a collaborative environment that offers faculty and others the opportunity to work with experts in pedagogy, instructional technology, online learning and more,” says Dooley. “There’s a certain efficiency by having these resources in one place as our faculty can find those ready to assist them in one location. The synergy created by these groups working together will have a major impact on campus.”
