BoilerKey enforced on Web VPN as of Friday, Sept. 14

On Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, ITaP began to enforce the use of BoilerKey, Purdue’s version of two-factor authentication, to sign into WebVPN, webvpn.purdue.edu.

Purdue’s virtual private network (VPN), also known as Cisco AnyConnect Client, allows users to access the Purdue network remotely. It is an entry point for nefarious activity if a Purdue user’s credentials have been stolen.

“As a large university, cyber criminals are consistently trying to break into Purdue’s network for sensitive information,” says Greg Hedrick, chief information security officer. “ITaP must ensure the integrity of the Purdue network and therefore must begin enforcing the use of BoilerKey on the WebVPN.”

BoilerKey adds an additional layer of security when logging in. Users must enter a PIN and then confirm their identity using a smartphone or physical token (a key fob) that is in their possession and available only to them.

If you already have BoilerKey, you need to use it to log in to WebVPN as of Friday, Sept. 14. If you do not yet have a BoilerKey, go to purdue.edu/boilerkey to sign up today.
