WebEx training offered every weekday through March 27

Faculty, staff and teaching assistants who may use WebEx for online meetings have an opportunity to get help with Purdue’s supported web conferencing system every weekday through March 27.

Temporary emergency WebEx training from ITaP in light of the COVID-19 situation will take place at 1 p.m. Monday through Friday from Monday, March 16, to Friday, March 27. The sessions will last about an hour. The meeting number is 642 247 397.

Participants can join the sessions here. They also can call in at 1-415-655-0003, although they will be unable to see the visuals available in the web conference if they call instead of joining by web browser. Computer audio also is preferable to calling because the University pays a per minute surcharge for each caller.

People who have not used WebEx before should sign in five minutes ahead of time to make sure their computer is ready to join the meeting. Contact your campus unit information technology staff or ITaP if you have questions about the technical requirements.

The sessions will provide an overview of WebEx, and cover basics like logging in, using your personal room, scheduling a meeting, adding an alternate host to meetings, and recording tips. Participants also will receive information about additional WebEx informational resources.

WebEx is available to Purdue faculty and staff, as well as students, at purdue.webex.com and purdue-student.webex.com.

Some features available to faculty and staff are not available to students. Students who serve as teaching assistants can get most faculty-level access by filling out this form. They still will not be able to set up a meeting with call-in access.

ITaP is providing this training with the following guidance from Purdue Teaching and Learning Technologies, part of the University’s Innovative Learning Group: TLT recommends against using WebEx for classes because of its limitations for delivering instruction to groups with varying levels of personal technology, network capacity and technical acumen. Visit https://www.purdue.edu/innovativelearning/teaching-remotely for extensive information on online instructional delivery.
