Envision Center hosts series of “coffee hours” for faculty, staff interested in virtual reality

Faculty and staff interested in learning more about how virtual and augmented reality technology can transform research and teaching are invited to attend a series of discussions this spring hosted by the Envision Center.

Each “VR Coffee Hour” will focus on different aspects of data visualization, including technology demonstrations and discussions about current topics, research and learning applications involving virtual reality simulation. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided and Envision Center staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Operated by ITaP, Purdue’s Envision Center works with faculty and staff to provide novel solutions for effectively communicating complex concepts. Examples include the development of virtual dissection tutorials, simulations for 3-D mapping of proteins and of planet formation, and the creation of virtual environments for construction safety training.

Topics and dates for the spring include:

  • Principles of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality; 2:30-3:30 p.m., Monday, March 26, in the Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 3049.
  • Visualization and Simulation: Technology in Education; 2:30-3:30 p.m., Monday, April 9, in WALC 3049.
  • Scientific Visualization (Science in VR); 2:30-3:30 p.m., Monday, April 23, in WALC 3049
  • Unity (software) Basics for Simulation Development; 2:30-3:30 p.m., Monday, May 7, in WALC 3049
  • VR simulation development with Unity; 2:30-3:30 p.m., Monday, May 21, in the Envision Center.
  • AR simulation development with Unity; 2:30-3:30 p.m., Monday June 4, in the Envision Center.
