Justin Greer Appointed Chief Information Security Officer

Following a national search, Purdue University has appointed Justin Greer as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), effective immediately. Greer has served as Interim CISO since August 21, 2023. During this time, Greer has been instrumental in enhancing Purdue’s security posture.

“Justin Greer seamlessly stepped into the Interim CISO role and embraced the opportunity to lead Purdue’s security efforts with a bias for action,” said Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer Ian Hyatt. “Cybersecurity remains a top-level priority for Purdue IT, and I am confident that he is the right person to lead these efforts.”   

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO), Greer will provide system-wide leadership and oversight of information technology security processes, policies and procedures, practices and services for Purdue University. He will consult with University leaders to identify and manage internal and external risks to the security, confidentiality, integrity, and availability of University assets and resources. Under his leadership, the Security organization will anticipate and actively protect against new threats; continually evaluate the effectiveness of current safeguards; design and implement new and improved safeguards, programs and solutions, monitor and test those implementations; develop security and privacy policies that embody and promote the best information security practices; and recommend measures for policy compliance, risk mitigation, and overall improved security posture. 

Greer has more than 15 years of experience with Purdue Information Technology in various capacities including software developer, system engineer and security architect. He served as Director, Enterprise Security from 2020 to 2023.  

Greer earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Technology from Purdue University. He has numerous professional certifications including CISSP, GISP, GSLC, GCFA and other technical and leadership credentials.
