Faculty workshops will cover resources for grading, video production, peer review and more

Interested in technology that can help you grade faster? Need to learn how to use Purdue’s one-stop Video Express recording studios? Want to know how Purdue’s latest educational tool can help your course’s student peer-review process?

Throughout the spring semester, the Innovative Learning Team is hosting a series of professional development events designed to help faculty learn about instructional technology on campus. Faculty and instructional staff can find a full listing of offerings online, but January’s offerings include:

Kaltura in-video quizzing: Jan. 9
Released in 2018, the in-video quizzing feature in Kaltura (Purdue’s video platform) allows instructors to add quizzes to their video content. This workshop will also teach participants how to integrate quiz grades with Blackboard’s gradebook.

On Jan. 10, there will be a separate session on how to edit videos using Camtasia, Purdue’s video-editing tool.

For faculty interested in learning how to create videos using Purdue’s one-stop Video Express rooms, a one-hour tutorial on Jan. 11 will cover how to set up, record and review videos,.

Introduction to Gradescope: Jan. 15
Learn about the new Purdue-supported grading tool, which is designed to help faculty manage grading workflow, increase the speed of the grading process and improve the consistency of grading. Piloted in 2018, Gradescope is now available for use campus-wide, and includes support from Instructional Data Process staff, who can scan exams for grading.

On Jan. 16, a second Gradescope workshop will focus on how to grade assignments using Gradescope’s grading rubric function, how to add student feedback and how to respond to regrade requests.

Qualtrics: January 22
Learn how to use Qualtrics, the online survey tool useful for everything from research to event registration. This self-paced event is designed to teach participants how to create a basic survey, view results and export data to an Excel file.

Introduction to Circuit, peer-review tool: January 24
Piloted in the fall of 2018, Circuit is a new educational application tool created in-house at Purdue that helps instructors facilitate calibrated peer evaluation and review in their courses. This introduction will cover how to create and schedule an assignment in Circuit, the differences between calibrated and standard peer review and how to design a rubric for student use.

Compliance sheriff, ensuring website accessibility: January 29
Learn how to use Compliance Sheriff,  software that can help determine if a website is accessible to people with disabilities. Attendees will learn how to access Compliance Sheriff and how to set up a scan and create reports, along with accessibility best practices.
